What is Baddha Konasana?

Baddha Konasana is sitting position asana in yoga. It is similar to Bhadrasana in yoga. It is good for meditation. It is also is known as butterfly pose, throne pose etc.

History and name origin

As a name suggest it is merging of three words. ‘Baddha’ means bound, ‘Kona’ means angle and ‘Asana’ means position or sitting style. Sitting like a bounded person is Baddha Konasana. It is mentioned the famous book of Hatayoga Pradipika. It was written in the 15th century.

How to do it?

If you are wondering how to do this Baddha Konasana, it is easy and simple. It is sitting position so lazy people do not need to find a reason for not doing it. As you can do it while sitting on the floor.

  • Sit straight, don’t bend it back
  • Sit in Indian style but don’t cross the legs instead just try to touch both feet with each other
  • Keep the balance with your hands. Try to sit like this for 2 to 3 minutes per day
  • Flap your legs like the butterfly while doing this Asana
  • Try to do it daily
